Dr. Donkor Visits EBID Private Sector Project in Kumasi

On August 6, 2020 the President of EBID, Dr. George Agyekum Donkor, paid a working visit to an ongoing EBID private sector infrastructure project, the Garden City Mall Ltd. in Kumasi. The project aims to boost the economic activities and job creation opportunities in Ghana.
The facility is 75% completed and comprises a shopping mall, other rental facilities, banks, clinics and a hotel. The complex is expected to be commissioned in September 2021. Some of the unique features of the project include its prime and strategic location close to Suame roundabout, Kumasi, and the rare aesthetic beauty of the design that have given the project the added value of an architectural and structural masterpiece in the region.
The purpose of Dr. Donkor’s visit was to inspect the level of physical progress achieved by the project and note the challenges resulting from the months of COVID-19 lockdown, in other to proffer a bilateral solution expeditiously with Garden City Mall Ltd.
Fielding questions from journalists after the tour, he described the progress made as both remarkable and significant adding that, it was in line with the development agenda of EBID. He also expressed the Bank’s appreciation to the Government of the Republic of Ghana over its support to the project. Finally, he informed journalists that all the fifteen (15) ECOWAS Member States had received EBID financing for various private and public sector projects amounting to two billion nine hundred million United States dollars (US$2.9b).
The Chief Executive of Garden City Mall Ltd., Mr. Alex Bruks, informed journalists that the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) was the first financial institution to commit a loan to the project.
