The President of EBID Meets with the President of Sierra Leone to Reinforce Strategic Partnership

The President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID), Dr George Agyekum Donkor, engaged in a productive courtesy visit with His Excellency Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the Presidential Lodge in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Accompanying Dr Donkor were Dr David Moinina Sengeh, Chief Minister and Chief Innovation Officer, and Mrs. Kadiatu Allie, Deputy Minister for Finance of Sierra Leone.

During the meeting, Dr Donkor reiterated EBID’s steadfast commitment to its strategic partnership with the Government of Sierra Leone. As the regional development finance institution of the ECOWAS Member States, EBID pledged its support to the Government of Sierra Leone in implementing its Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP) 2024-2030. Dr Donkor emphasized EBID’s intention to bolster collaboration with the Sierra Leonean government across various sectors, including agriculture, energy, infrastructure, health, and education. EBID intends to facilitate a pipeline of projects totalling US$200 million, aimed at fostering socio-economic development and prosperity in Sierra Leone.

In response, His Excellency President Bio affirmed his full support for EBID’s initiatives and underscored the importance of the government’s Big Five priority development sectors, with a particular focus on agriculture, infrastructure development, education, health, and tourism. President Bio highlighted the significance of leveraging Sierra Leone’s abundant natural resources with the assistance of development finance institutions such as EBID, to drive sustainable socio-economic growth for the benefit of all Sierra Leoneans.

To date, EBID has committed over US$168 million in investments in the Republic of Sierra Leone, reflecting its unwavering dedication to fostering growth and development in the country.

This high-level meeting underscores the strong partnership between EBID and the Government of Sierra Leone, to advance the nation’s development agenda and improve the livelihoods of its citizens.
