EBID President and Egyptian Ambassador to Togo discuss partnership possibilities
The President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID), Dr George Agyekum Donkor, received a courtesy visit from the Egyptian Ambassador to Togo, His Excellency Ahmed Mohamed Eid Moustapha Ahmed, on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at the Bank’s headquarters in Lome, Togolese Republic.
Dr Donkor began the meeting with an overview of EBID’s activities, highlighting its crucial role in economic development in the ECOWAS subregion, culminating in commitments of about USD 4.2 billion in priority sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure and energy.
Underscoring the Bank’s aim of promoting economic recovery by expanding its interventions in West Africa, the President of EBID presented the initiative of bringing Non-Regional members on board as Strategic Partners.
In response, the Egyptian Ambassador emphasized Egypt’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with the ECOWAS sub-region while calling for closer collaboration to yield impactful initiatives. Both personalities pledged to work together towards realization of mutually beneficial outcomes, leveraging both private sector investment and government participation.
The meeting was part of efforts to reach out to diplomatic missions in Togo, to deepen cooperation as the Bank strives to achieve the targets of its Strategic Plan and deliver on its mandate.
