The President of EBID Represents the Chancellor of The University Of Ghana

Dr George Agyekum Donkor, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) recently conferred degrees on graduands during the 2023 graduation ceremonies of the University of Ghana.

The University of Ghana, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year under the theme “Nurturing Resilience: Adopting Technology, Embracing Humanism”, has made important strides to remain a potent and relevant premier university despite the multiplicity of new universities in recent times.

Dr Donkor, a Member of the University Council, represented the Chancellor of the University, Mrs. Mary Chinery-Hesse, at two of the 13 congregation ceremonies during which he awarded degrees for courses from the College of Humanities and College of Basic and Applied Sciences

In his address to the 2023 graduating class on behalf of the Chancellor, Dr Donkor applauded the steps that the Management of the University had taken to tackle the challenges it had faced in recent years to ensure a positive outcome for the country’s leading university. The most notable being the digitisation drive and the classroom modernisation initiatives implemented by the University’s Vice-Chancellor. The President of EBID also commended the university’s gender policy, which had been launched a few days prior to the graduation ceremony and strive to bridge gender equality at all levels of the University.

An avid academic and advocate of promoting education in the ECOWAS sub-region, Dr Donkor encouraged graduands to be innovative in their endeavours and to continue to use their skills and knowledge gained to positively impact their communities and beyond. “Society today faces numerous problems from economic challenges to social inequality and I challenge each and every one of you who has graduated today to play your part in creating a better future for all,”

Supporting Education as a means to equipping ECOWAS citizens with employable skills, in order access job opportunities and impact the subregions growth agenda is at the core of EBID’s strategic mission and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
