Non-regional Membership to EBID’s capital at the centre of discussions between the President of the Bank and the Turkish Ambassador to Togo
The President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID), Dr George Agyekum Donkor, received a courtesy visit from Her Excellency Muteber Kiliç, Ambassador of Turkiye to Togo, on Friday, June 7, 2024, at the headquarters of the Bank.
The visit, aimed to reinforce the collaboration between EBID and Turkiye, emphasized the opportunities for mutually rewarding trade and economic engagements while presenting the unique opportunity for non-regional members to subscribe to the Bank’s capital.
During the meeting, Dr Donkor underscored the Bank’s mandate of boosting infrastructure and economic development to improve the lives of ECOWAS Communities while being a catalyst for regional integration. The President of EBID also presented the Bank’s activities in the sub-region, highlighting its commitments totaling 4.194 billion USD in key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, renewable energy, and support for SMEs and SMIs.
In her response, the Turkish Ambassador to Togo affirmed the country’s commitment to deepening relations between Turkiye and West Africa and stressed the emergence of Turkiye as a competitive, innovative, and industrious player in the global trade sphere.
The meeting, which was also attended by Dr Olagunju Ashimolowo, Vice President in charge of Operations of EBID, and Dr Mory Soumahoro, Vice President in charge of Risk and Control of EBID, is part of efforts to harness diplomatic partnerships to accompany the Bank’s growth strategy.
