International Workers’ Day, also known as Labour Day, <\/span><\/span>allows workers <\/span><\/span>worldwide to momentarily step away from their routine occupations, promot<\/span><\/span>e<\/span><\/span>the welfare and fair treatment of working individuals while fostering <\/span><\/span>comradeship<\/span><\/span> among them. This global observance provides an opportunity to commemorate the historic triumphs of the labour movement and advocate for ongoing progress towards safeguarding workers’ rights across the globe.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I take this opportunity to salute all workers and individuals at all levels whose tireless efforts have made the difference in the world of work, which impacts lives for the better<\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span>This year, the International Labour Organisation (ILO), through various activities, is focusing on fundamental right to a safe and healthy working environment. This focus could not have come at a more <\/span><\/span>critical<\/span><\/span> time<\/span><\/span>when the global<\/span><\/span> economic difficulties<\/span><\/span> have impacted <\/span><\/span>working conditions for workers worldwide.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) is not just a financial institution <\/span><\/span>but<\/span><\/span> a catalyst for transformation across West Africa<\/span><\/span> with a<\/span><\/span> mandate to transform communities<\/span><\/span>, foster<\/span><\/span> inclusive<\/span><\/span> and<\/span><\/span> sustainable<\/span><\/span>development<\/span><\/span> and improve the livelihoods of the vulnerable populations in the sub-region.<\/span><\/span> W<\/span><\/span>e cannot achieve this goal without a committed, engaged, and healthy workforce. <\/span><\/span>Indeed, the<\/span><\/span>Bank recognizes that a safe and healthy workplace is not just a legal obligation but a moral imperative<\/span><\/span>–<\/span><\/span> a basic human right that we must strive to <\/span><\/span>uphold <\/span><\/span>at all times<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In line with the focus of the ILO, <\/span><\/span>the Board of Directors and management<\/span><\/span> are <\/span><\/span>equally<\/span><\/span> committed to creating an environment where every member of our staff can thrive. <\/span><\/span>This means <\/span><\/span>investing in<\/span><\/span>staff<\/span><\/span> well-being, providing the resources <\/span><\/span>necessary for success<\/span><\/span>, creating a culture of trust, respect, and<\/span><\/span> fostering<\/span><\/span> collaboration.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

On this <\/span><\/span>Special<\/span><\/span> Day, let us recommit ourselves to <\/span><\/span>building<\/span><\/span> a world-class institution that <\/span><\/span>will serve as the blueprint for <\/span><\/span>West Africa<\/span><\/span> not forgetting <\/span><\/span>that our work is <\/span><\/span>primarily <\/span><\/span>about people and communities.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Permit me to use this opportunity to <\/span><\/span>appreciate<\/span><\/span> all EBID staff <\/span><\/span>for <\/span><\/span>their<\/span><\/span> selfless <\/span><\/span>dedication to <\/span><\/span>the Bank<\/span><\/span>and to our shared vision of a prosperous, peaceful, and sustainable West Africa.
